We will not walk another mile
Within the next week, in addition to adjusting to a new time (EAT time zone -Eastern Africa Time) and language, one of the changes for us is going to be to re-learn and convert our measurements into Celsius and metric, i.e. grams, liters, kilometers and so on. Camie and I both grew up with the metric system so it is somewhat familiar but it will definitely take some thought to readjust. It will feel strange for me to say that 26° (C°) will feel like a gorgeous day but in fact it will. So, in another week, we will not walk another mile but walk kilometers instead.
Over the last few months I have often been asked, "how do you know you are doing the right thing by moving to Kenya?" and adding, "I would never have the courage to do what you are doing..."
The best experience this year has been to over and over see the LORD guide the path before us. (Prov. 3:5-6). We have not often seen too far ahead, just the next one or two steps. So we take the next right step, often requiring a measure of faith, and only then we see the next step ahead after that. When God directs the path, over time the steps become lighter and easier to take. We can look back and see patterns of how the LORD provided for us this year.
God wants to build our confidence in him. Over and over in the process we've heard God's voice. As we take the right steps he continues to affirm that we are headed in the right direction, "yes, I have you in my hands, just take the next step." So we continue on, as that voice keeps getting more familiar with a confident anticipation of what lies ahead.
Going to a foreign county is no longer that different or abnormal to us. We all approach the steps that God puts before us and act on them. Some of us measure them in miles and some in kilometers. Hopefully we are all on the right path that God puts before us. We really only know that we are on the right path if we are at peace with that familiar voice we hear. A screaming voice or for that matter even complete silence can be just as familiar but not nearly as peaceful as hearing the voice of our LORD.
So we continue on...
"...having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come."
Ephesians 1:18-21
Let's keep walking together in miles and kilometers and in Jesus' name discovering the wonderful journey that lies ahead.
